Guy Oden, died in Leavenworth Prison

Image
My grandfather wasn't raised by his biological parents. According to family stories, they placed him atop a jukebox in a bar with his baby carrier. His mother, Lillian Belle Lowe, and father, William Henry Oden, were married and had two other children, Bill Jr. and Guy Oden. A childless cousin of Lillian's adopted my grandfather and raised him. Consequently, he didn't meet his brothers or mother until he was about 21 years old, when my grandmother persuaded him to seek out his mother. Guy Edward Oden, at the age of 19, shot Ellen Cannon in the back as she attempted to flee from him; she was only 15. He was employed as an usher at a local theater and resided in Washington D.C. with his mother and her second husband, Ralph Elam, though he sometimes stayed with his father in Gaithersburg, MD. I discovered that Guy Oden passed away in Leavenworth Prison, prompting me to search for his name on Newspapers.com.
